Fire Pumps & Fire Pump Sets

Tricel supplies Grundfos fire pump solutions for commercial and industrial fire protection applications, including packaged fire pump sets, electric and diesel-driven pumps and pressure-maintenance solutions. Our pump team can help identify equipment based on the specified system duty, required standard and project requirements.

01

Fire Pump Solutions

Grundfos fire pump solutions are available for different fire protection configurations. The final arrangement should always be selected around the approved system design and applicable standard.

Grundfos Fire Hydro EN packaged fire pump system for automatic sprinkler installations

Grundfos Fire Hydro EN

Packaged EN 12845 Fire Pump System

FORMAT
Packaged firefighting system

FUNCTION
Fire-water supply for automatic sprinkler installations

SELECTED TO
EN 12845 and the approved fire protection design

Grundfos Fire Hydro EN is a packaged firefighting pump system for automatic sprinkler installations, designed in accordance with EN 12845. The drive arrangement, controls and pressure-maintenance equipment are confirmed against the project specification.

Electric Fire Pump Sets

Motor-Driven Fire Pumps

FORMAT
Electric motor-driven pump set

FUNCTION
Main design flow and pressure

SELECTED TO
The approved fire protection design and applicable standard

Electric fire pump sets provide the design flow and pressure required by a water-based fire protection system using an electric motor-driven pump. Grundfos Fire NKF EN is a fire-specific end-suction pump-set range. Final equipment selection must follow the specified fire protection design and applicable standard.

Diesel Fire Pump Sets

Engine-Driven Fire Pumps

FORMAT
Diesel engine-driven pump set

FUNCTION
Design flow and pressure from an independent drive

SELECTED TO
The approved fire protection design and applicable standard

Diesel-driven fire pumps provide an engine-powered arrangement where the fire protection design requires an independent or alternative drive. Grundfos supplies diesel-driven Fire NKF EN firefighting systems built around EN 12845.

Grundfos CR vertical multistage jockey pump for maintaining pressure in fire protection systems

Jockey Pumps

Fire System Pressure Maintenance

FORMAT
Pressure-maintenance pump

FUNCTION
Keeps the network at normal pressure

SELECTED TO
The approved fire protection design and applicable standard

A jockey pump maintains normal pressure in the fire protection network and compensates for minor pressure losses, helping prevent unnecessary starting of the main fire pumps.

Complete Fire Pump Systems

Grundfos Fire Hydro EN

Grundfos Fire Hydro EN is a packaged firefighting pump system, designed in accordance with EN 12845 for automatic sprinkler installations. The final configuration is selected according to the required fire protection duty, redundancy and applicable project standard.

02

Fire Pump Applications

Automatic Sprinkler Systems

Water supply and pressure for automatic sprinkler installations.

Fire Hydrant Systems

Fire-water pumping for suitable hydrant systems where boosted pressure is required.

Hose Reel Systems

Water supply for fixed hose-reel systems designed for manual firefighting.

Commercial Buildings

Fire-water pumping for commercial developments and building-services projects.

Industrial Facilities

Fire pump systems for industrial sites that need an engineered fire-water supply.

Warehouses & Distribution

Fire-water pumping for sprinkler and other suitable protection systems serving storage and logistics facilities.

Building type alone does not determine the pump arrangement. The fire protection design sets the duty, configuration and standard.

03

Selecting the Right Fire Pump System

Fire pump selection starts with the approved fire protection design. The pump set must meet the specified hydraulic duty, configuration and applicable standard.

Factor
What needs to be confirmed
Applicable standard
Which fire protection standard, approval or project specification applies?
Required flow
What design flow has been specified by the fire protection designer?
Required pressure / head
What pressure must the system provide at its specified duty?
Water supply
Is the pump supplied from a fire-water tank, mains connection or another approved source?
Pump configuration
Does the project require a duty pump, standby pump or another arrangement?
Driver
Does the design require electric drive, diesel drive or a combination?
Controls & alarms
What monitoring, alarm and remote-signal requirements apply?
Installation
What plant-room, suction arrangement and site conditions need to be considered?

IMPORTANT

Fire pump selection must follow the approved fire protection design and applicable standards. Flow, pressure, redundancy and power requirements should be confirmed by the project’s competent fire protection designer.

Understanding a Fire Pump System

Series
Configuration
Duty fire pump
Provides the primary specified flow and pressure when the fire protection system activates.
Standby fire pump
Provides redundancy where required by the fire protection design or applicable standard.
Electric drive
Motor-driven fire pump arrangement using the specified electrical supply.
Diesel drive
Engine-driven arrangement where an independent or alternative drive is specified.
Jockey pump
Maintains normal system pressure and compensates for small pressure losses.
Fire pump controller
Controls pump starting, monitoring and alarm functions for the associated pump.

EN 12845 Fire Pump Systems

Designed Around the Required Fire Protection Standard

Fire pump equipment must be selected as part of the complete fire protection system and according to the standard specified for the project. Grundfos Fire Hydro EN systems are designed for automatic sprinkler installations in accordance with EN 12845, published in Ireland by NSAI as I.S. EN 12845.

Consultant specifications, insurer requirements, authority requirements and the building’s fire protection design may also apply. Equipment supply does not by itself make an installation compliant.

frequently asked questions

What is a fire pump?

A fire pump supplies water at the required flow and pressure to a water-based fire protection system when the available water supply alone cannot meet the system requirement.

A jockey pump maintains normal pressure within the fire protection network and compensates for small pressure losses, helping prevent unnecessary starting of the main fire pump.

An electric fire pump is driven by an electric motor, while a diesel fire pump uses a diesel engine. The required arrangement depends on the fire protection design, power supply, applicable standard and redundancy requirements.

EN 12845 is the European standard for the design, installation and maintenance of automatic sprinkler systems. In Ireland it is published by NSAI as I.S. EN 12845. A separate Part 2 covers the design and installation of ESFR and CMSA sprinkler systems.

Send us the pump nameplate information, the original design duty and the applicable fire-system specification where available. Replacement equipment should be assessed against the requirements of the fire protection system rather than selected by physical pump size alone.

Grundfos Fire Pumps in Ireland

Tricel supplies Grundfos fire pumps in Ireland for commercial and industrial fire protection projects, working from the specification prepared by the project’s fire protection designer.

The Grundfos fire range includes Fire Hydro EN packaged systems and Fire NKF EN fire-specific end-suction pump sets, with electric fire pumps and diesel fire pumps available depending on the required configuration. These EN 12845 fire pumps serve sprinkler pump duties; fire protection pumps for hydrant and hose-reel systems, and jockey pumps, are selected against the standard that applies to each project.

Whether you need fire pump sets in Ireland for a new installation or fire fighting pumps to replace existing equipment, send our pump team the specified flow, pressure, standard and pump arrangement. For fire-water storage, see our sprinkler tanks. For other duties, see pressure boosting sets and pump service and maintenance.

Need a Fire Pump System?
